The old town of Varaždin - Stari grad Varaždin, Croatia
Made by Gabrijela, 7. d:
The old town of Varaždin is one of the sights of the city of Varaždin, it is known as a tourist center and is the most important building in the city of Varaždin. It is located on the northwestern edge of Varaždin's city center. Outside it is an impregnable military fortress surrounded by double moats in which the Drava river canal was located, ramparts where cannons were once bathed and walls up to 2.5 m thick in some places. Inside the Old Town is a Renaissance aristocratic palace. It served as the center of a noble estate, owned and legally separated from the royal and free city of Varaždin. In honor of the millennium anniversary of the Croatian kingdom, the Varaždin City Museum was opened in the Old Town in 1925, and the original exhibition consisted of objects mostly donated by famous Varaždin families.
One of the interesting things is that the Old Town is on the back, now invalid, of the Croatian 5 kuna banknote.
